How to write a blog post every day of the week with ease
Dec 9 2011 in local business blog by Diane Corriette
One reason local business owners give me for not starting a business blog is their fear over what to write so I decided to create a list that will show you how to write a blog post every day of the week with ease – even if you believe you don’t have the time!
The first thing to remember is your blog is based on your expertise, what you already know, so there is nothing new to come up with – you can simply write about what you know from a position of how it helps the people reading it (that’s one of my blogging tips below). If you sat down and thought about it you could easily generate content, however, to make it even easier for you I am going to supply you with a list.
Before I start I will say that this is an going list that I will constantly add more to as I think about it so make sure you bookmark it and keep it close at hand so if you are ever stuck on how to write a blog post you can come back here and get some inspiration.
I will start with content generation tips all bloggers can use and then go into some specific blogging tips depending on the type of blog that uses this social blogging platform.
Every Influencer Blog
Interview an expert in your niche. Someone who is either more of an authority on the subject than you are or someone who is related to what you do. Either interview them using audio and record it or send them a few questions to answer. Make sure you provide a link back to their blog and a short bio.
Write content that answers a question your reader has – it is one of the easiest ways to keep coming up with content. Simply think about what people struggle with and create blog content that demonstrates how you can help.
Find a big news item and relate it to your niche and what you do. Even if the news item is totally unrelated to your niche can you find a creative/different way to link the two together?
Use what happens in your life. Did something funny happen today? Did something your 5 year old say give you a profound moment of clarity relating to your niche? Use the things that happen in life on your blog.
Use a comment from one of your readers that you loved reading and tell everyone why
Use a question from one of your readers and answer it as a blog post
Use an image that you love relating to your niche that says what you wanted to say – give it a great title and nothing else. This works really well with animal, plant and nature niches.
Use free writing. Read 5 to 10 articles on a topic then go away and do something completely unrelated – go for a walk or wash up or something – then come back and write out free flowing ideas on the topic and use that to create a blog post. Hopefully, it will help you come up with more than one idea. Click here to read a wikipedia article on it that explains the technique.
Write a quote of the week. Take your favorite quote and create content using it
Get a youtube video related to what you do and write a short introduction about why you are including it and then a brief summary. Only has to be a paragraph.
Make your own video – even if it is only a one minute tip – and add that to youtube then your blog (or just your blog), that way you can build up a whole resource of tips that you provide and they are only available on your blog so people have to come back or register to stay in touch.
Sometimes you just have to spend time writing great content that is worth sharing. That also means it is going to be long and take time. There is no way round this so just get used to it but make these linkbait posts (as they are known) something you only do every few months.
If the idea of writing a long blog post fills you with dread then spend a little time every day over a week or two writing it. Save it in Word until it is long enough to share, don’t think you have to sit and write one long post in one go.
Once you have 5-10 blog posts put them all together and create a report – add that to your blog.
Write one blog post that links to the best of your blog content every month (great for community blogs) – let people know what you blogged about, the blog post with the most amount of comments – turn it into a monthly news feature and link back to all the blog posts.
Create a flow chart that takes your readers through a process you use. Does your niche have a process that goes from A to Z? Take your readers through your process quickly using a chart. I am too much of a detailed person to be great at this, but I have read some wonderful charts and mind maps from marketers I am subscribed to so I didn’t want to miss this one off.
Write a blog post using other people’s opinion/articles. Give your opinion on what they are talking about and then link back to their content. This is known as curation blogging and I will be writing more on this topic and putting it under ‘blogging tips’ so search the site to find more.
Make a list. It is a little cliche for more established bloggers but it still works well and if you are a new blogger I didn’t want to miss this out. Make a list of something – 10 tips about… 7 ways to… and use that as blog content.
Use a free desktop capture tool like TechSmith’s Jing, record your computer screen as you demonstrate something and turn it into video content
Use free software like audacity and make audio content to add to your blog. I have outlined how to do that – click the link to find out about creating audio content for your blog.
Use Google Reader and alerts to keep an eye on your niche/topic because that will inspire you to find new ideas and keep an ideas journal so if you are ever stuck you can go to it for inspiration.
Write out 7 tips, just the headline. Then take each tip and write one blog post about it. That’s 7 blog posts in an instant.
Create a page that shares you story – I used to have one called “100 things about me…” – it was a little long but anyone that read them all loved it.
Use the free google keyword tool, put your main keyword in and see what alternatives is shows up. Choose the terms with a lot of searches but not much competition!
Develop a series of posts. Create content on a weekly basis that is part of a series of blog posts for example “21 ways to find your ideal woman” then each week or every day write a blog post on that topic.
Write a blog review. Review a product, book, service or something relevant to your niche, making sure you use your affiliate link in your review.
Celebrate an achievement or milestone. If either you or someone/thing related to your blog has something to celebrate share it with your readers. Did your 3 year old finally take to the potty? Share that on your mommy bloggers blog.
Link out to relevant resources. Are there tools/resources your readers should be using. Create a blog post outlining some of them with links (affiliate links whenever possible) and explain why its worth using.
Create a ‘Facts’ page. Write out facts about your niche and/or topic that people need to know and get it to fit on one A4 page, then turn it into a PDF and upload it to your blog. Once you have 6 or more facts turn it into an ebook you can give away or circulate your free tips on free ebook sites
Write something that will cause a discussion and/or debate. Find a topic that you know people in your niche will have an opinion on and write about it. For example in the dating niche you could ask the question – “who should pay on the first date – him or her?”
Re-use your current content. One long article can be added to an article sharing site.
a. You can then use the same article, give it a new title and shortern it into a blog post.
b. Record the same long article using audio and add the audio to your site.
c. Take the best points of your article and turn it into a ‘fact sheet’ or a short report that you give away
d. Take that short report, add it to powerpoint and record it as a video
One article will give you four new ways to create content and all of them can be added to your blog.
That is a total of 31 ways to write a blog post (35 if you include the a-d of that last blogging tip)
Local Business & Professional Blogs
Focus on events taking place in your local area. Is there a farmers market coming to town or does a festival regularly happen in your part of the world. Maybe people visiting Glastonbury are always coming through – write about the festival and what’s on as well as who is on.
Share your local business networking events that you attend. Who did you meet? Write about the person who gave a talk to the network and give your opinion on that.
Use local or regional news and write about what’s happening in yoru niche – especially if it is related to how your business helps.
What have you written content in the past? Articles, old newsletters, most experts have written something. Maybe you have past articles that were printed in a magazine? All of this content can be added to your blog as content.
Hyperlocal Blogs & Online Communities
Did/does a celebrity live in your local area? Did they go back to visit their old school or home? Search Youtube for videos and you might come up with a great one like the one below with Kenneth Williams who lived in Kings Cross

Highlight one of your community bloggers. Once a week write a blog post that highlights the contribution being made by one of your members
Write a blog post that updates your readers about your online fundraising efforts – this will help to remind them that you are always looking for donations and it will also let them know how much you have managed to raise.
What the money was spent on can also be turned into blog content. Let them know that the £2,000 raised last week helped to repair the church roof or buy much needed equipment for two elderly housebound members of the community.
University/student blogs
What events are your society running? Have an online diary of all your events. Write a blog post when they are due to start and a blog post with a summary after they are complete.
Write about your time at university, especially if you are attending a university in the area you are looking to work. Write about some of the things that happen on campus. This will help you get local recognition.
Looking for a job? Write blog posts on it, every month blog about the interviews you have attended and the type of job you are looking for – use the title of a job if you know it.

Eventually, you will build up a collection of different ways that work for you and those are the ones you should focus on until you are ready to introduce new ways.
